Famed vehicle manufacturer, Stellantis has rolled out a significant change in its distribution approach. Moving away from tradition, Stellantis will no longer provide combustion-only vehicles in 14 US states unless specifically requested by a customer.
These states have adopted stricter emissions guidelines set by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) beyond nationwide standards. Affected states include Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, and Washington.
A Surprising Turn
Interestingly, Stellantis implemented this new approach several months back. The change comes well ahead of CARB rules that would mandate manufacturers to sell a fixed quota of electric vehicles, a rule that only comes into force in 2026.
Even though potential customers might need to journey to non-CARB states to find their preferred models, the policy shift does not drastically impact the availability of combustion-engine models, which remain accessible through specific orders.
